Winter Excursion 3, Day 19

We slept in this morning as we watched the Seahawks game last night until 2300. Didn't get up until 0830!
I left camp around 0930 to pick up the fire pit and some firewood from Brian & Nicole's. Got back to camp around 1100.
Cath had lunch for us and we headed to the commissary to get supplies for the weekend, as the Kiddos will be here!
Here's a pic of the wood. There is more at Bri's house, but I won't get it until next week, there is only so much room in the truck.
We finally got some sunshine and the forecast is for more of the same for the next ten days.
We have new camera software on our phones. The following pics were taken after dark.
It's a goggle thing and called "night sight" It works really great.
BBQ chicken for dinner. Early to bed. The Kiddos will be here tomorrow.

Winter Excursion 3, Day 18

We woke up at 0400 this morning to a driving, pouring rain, what else is new on this trip so far.....LOL
The rain stopped around 0730 and we have no more in the forecast for the next ten days!
We left camp and headed to Wesley's Thanksgiving Parade at his pre-school. This is our third year attending this parade (2 with Kennedy and 2 with Wesley, one year overlapped).
Here's Wes in the green hat.
His whole class singing a few T-day songs.
Not Wesley's group, but these were the cutest costumes.
After the parade the Thanksgiving Feast started. Here's Wes at the table.
And here he is getting into a turkey leg.....actually a chicken leg from Publix.
I ran a few errands this afternoon and spent the rest of the time with the Kiddos. Cath did laundry (thanks Nicole for the machines).
Met Kennedy at the bus stop. Nicole made a nice dinner. Then Kennedy and I went to her basketball practice. She's in the yellow.
Back at camp a few toddies and we will sleep good tonight!

Winter Excursion 3, Day 17

We had a lazy morning and then headed out to find a DVD set. The Kiddos are all into Jurassic Park/World stuff. I found a DVD set that had all five movies available at WalMart (out favorite store...NOT). So off we went to the Wally in North Charleston, they did not have it, although the website said they did. We headed to the next Wally in Charleston, same deal. We then drove to the Mt Pleasant Wally and Horrah! it was on the shelf. The Kiddos will be happy when they are in the camper with us, they can watch any or all of the movies.
Back at camp we got the smoker fired up and did pork country ribs for dinner. Cooked them low n' slow for five hours.
Watched the CMA awards show and hit the rack.
And yes we are forecast for more rain tonight!😖

Winter Excursion 3, Day 16

We spent the morning putting camp together. During our Family Reunion Trip and the first two weeks of this trip we have not been setting everything up as we are moving every few days and it's rained a lot. We got out the rug, chairs, grill, flags, and wind spinners. Here's a few pics of the campsite. We will be here for six weeks.
I ran over to the hardware store for a few things I needed to upgrade our TV and satellite system. We are now able to get satellite, record shows, and get OTA channels without moving any wires or connections. We are really happy with the way it works!
Nicole and the Kiddos arrived around 1530. Skittles, gatorades, and traps were in order. Here they are tailgating on my truck!
Nicole took this pic, I think it's a good one.
We all met Brain at EVOs (our favorite pizza joint). We had a good time and some good eats. The smoked olives are to die for!
After dinner Wesley got the bill.
He signed it "Daddy Boss". What a hoot!
As usual it 's been raining on and off all day. When we got back to camp it really let loose. Cath and I think this will be our "rain trip", as opposed to our "cold trip" last year and the "perfect weather trip" our first year. A little TV then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 3, Day 15

Left camp this morning at 0900. Had an easy drive down RT 17, traffic was not bad. Rain started just south of Wilmington, NC and really rained once we got to Georgetown,SC. Stopped for a quick Subway lunch south of Georgetown, gassed up and headed to the Kiddos house.
Wesley was totally jazzed to see us and we had a great time checking out all his stuff, especially the dinosaurs. We got a lecture on all the dinos and their heritage!
Met Kennedy at the bus stop in a pouring rain. One of the neighbors actually stopped to tell me what a nice guy I was to meet the kids with an umbrella at the bus stop.
We left Nicole and the Kiddos at 1540. The Kiddos did not want us to leave, but Kaylee was ready to get away from the crazies!
The drive to camp was a challenge. It rained torrents and the bridges were backed up. Made it to our new camp at Foster Creek (Goose Creek, SC). Set up in the rain and then it slacked off. Toddies are definitely in order this evening.

Winter Excursion 3, Day 14

Left camp this morning to explore Surf City, NC and see some of the hurricane damage from Florence. We are 30 miles north of Wilmington, NC.
There is still tons of sand in all the streets. It looks like they "plowed" the sand the same as we plow snow up north.
There are trash piles everywhere. Most of them are wood, drywall, carpets, mattresses, and furniture. These piles are along the roads waiting for removal.
Another pile of drywall.
Probably 90% of the homes and hotels have roof damage. There are 100s of contractors in the area working on these roofs. We did not see any damage to any of the metal roofs.
The beach looks terrible. The sand is black and there is debris everywhere. Most of the decks and walkways to the beach are damaged or destroyed. The drive and walk on the beach was actually a little depressing. We feel for the folks in this area.
Here's one more shot of the camper and our site here.
We are looking forward to tomorrow as we will be in the Charleston area and get to see the Kiddos!👀💟😍

Winter Excursion 3, Day 13

We were up at 0600 and on the road by 0730. Did the drive to Hatteras and caught the ferry at 0900. It rained on the way there, but cleared off for the rest of the day.
We arrived at Ocracoke, NC around 1000. Parked the camper near the ferry landing and walked all over town looking for a place for lunch. None of the restaurants were open! We went back to the camper and had bologna sandwiches for lunch.
Caught the Ocracoke - Cedar Island ferry at 1230. Arrived at Cedar Island at 1530.
We did the 120 mile drive down RT12 and arrived at our campsite about 1800. We only drove 180 miles today, but we spent the entire day in the truck!
Here's a pic of the new campsite near Surf City, NC. This campground is private and is more like a trailer park than campground. We had to stay here as our original reservations at Cedar Point USFS were canceled due to hurricane damage. The site was a mud hole last night when we got here. Got the camper set up and had frozen pizza for dinner. And yep, a few toddies!  It's been a long day.
