Coles Creek SP, NY Day 10

Last day, we are sad.  Pack up and head home in the morning,
One of the neighbors asked if I'd like to go fishing today, My reply was WWWHHHATT?
We had a good time and I nailed a 4 pd small mouth.  Sorry no pics as this guy was camera impaired.
We got off the water just in time as some storms were getting ready to blow through.

Back at camp Kaylee figured she was gonna have another Viszla day, but Cath and I nipped that in the bud.  She is doing fine and actually a very good camping dog.
Right after the storms passed we had a nice rainbow.

After the storms passed it was a beautiful late afternoon.
Early to bed as there is no beer or wine left (Cath drank it all).
Here's a pic of the last campfire for Coles Creek SP.
We are going to Cranberry Lake on 12 Sep for 5 days. Tune in for more fun with Craig & Cath....LOL

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 9

Toady was a Kaylee day!  She started out at 0600 waking me up for a drink of water. That turned into 0630 I wanna go for a walk.  I said wait till I have some coffee, but she was having none of that. Half way through my first cup we were out the door and down the street.  Two miles later she was sort of happy, but not really.  Seems she also wanted a quick swim, so off to the seaway we went.  I managed to get a quick bite for breakfast and then off for a bike ride with Kaylee.  This is her new thing, I ride the bike, she runs alongside.  At lunch time Cath decided the dog needed even more exercise, so off to swim again we went.  I am totally exhausted!
As if making the dog's every wish come true is not humiliating enough, I had this t-shirt on today that made all the neighbors think I'm gay!  It will be burned tomorrow with the evening campfire.
Cath and I have been playing a lot of cribbage and as luck would have it I've won every game on this trip up until today.  Talk about a busted ego! Well as it tuned out I won 2 out of 3 today, but she broke my streak.
Had a few seagulls around camp today as usual, they get really aggressive.  This one wanted to be our dinner, but I prefer fried chicken.
Had super jerked burgers and french fries for dinner with all the trimmings.
Off to bed early, tomorrow is our last day, leftovers for dinner tomorrow.

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 8

Had a lazy morning. Made coffee, watched the sun come up, and had a few cups. Then I went and showered, came back to the camper and Cath awoke!
We made bacon and eggs on the grill (yea, we can do that too!) and then enjoyed the weather.  It was low humidity and cool today, sunny, with big white puffy clouds,
Went for a short drive to the nearest little town (Waddington, NY).  Nice old place.  It is right on the seaway and has a mile or so walking trail.  It has two marinas that the locals use and a nice lookout park on the west side.  There is also some awesome homes right on the seaway.
This one is three stories, with an elevator and a small cannon in the front yard under the flag pole. It is used to keep the Canadians out.
Stopped at the local IGA for a few supplies as we are starving again.  Came back to camp and tried the fishing thing again, but no luck.

Cath said no fishing, but I'll do some reading.
Had Frito Pie for dinner and than sat by the fire.  Tomorrow is another lazy day, a little camp maintenance, and there is still some beer that needs to be finished before we leave for home. Early to bed as Kaylee is exhausted.

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 7

So we went to bed late last night, and neither of us should do that anymore.  2300 is too late! I got up at 0700, made coffee and and watched the campground come to life.  Actually a lot of folks were leaving as they probably have to work tomorrow, sucks to be them!
Cath crawled out of bed about 0900 and we were finally able to leave camp around 1100.
Drove up to Massena to get a few things and went to the local hard cider joint.  Not really a joint, they are open Fri, Sat, & Sun in a big lot.  They had a really good Country Music Band, food stands, and local made Hard Cider.
The cider was really good and we brought a bottle back to the campsite.  Kaylee was a big hit and everyone wanted to know what kind of dog she was.  I told them she was an attack dog from Iran and to keep their distance, but as she is red she must be a Republican.
We stopped at the grocery store and got a pizza to cook at camp to go with the hard cider. We did a really good job with the pizza, but I don't want to show a pic as most of you would think its in back and white, mostly black.
As usual, did a little camp cleanup, visited with the new neighbors, and got dinner together. Fried chicken on the grill (yep we can do that), broccoli salad, and local fresh veggies.
After dinner sat down under the awning to relax for a few minutes, but Cath will have none of that!!  She had to mess with my favorite wind twirling thing and it took me 30 minutes to get it fixed (untangled).

Looks kind of nice with the sunset in the background.
All is well in the Boss camper, early to bed tonight!

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 6

The foot was better today.  We did some camp maintenance and just enjoyed the morning. Weather was sunny, cool, and low humidity.  Our friends showed up around noon.  Spent the afternoon yakking and riding the bikes around the park.
Smoked pork chops, homemade baked beans, and salad for dinner.  Our friends left around 1900. Cath and I sat around the fire and then got invited to the neighbors for SMORES. Had fun with them as the whole family was there, probably 15 people.  Off to bed about 2230.  All in all it was a great day.

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 5

Bacon, eggs, and blueberry muffins for breakfast, YUM!
Went to bed last night with my foot a little sore.  I wasn't sure what the issue was, but woke up in the middle of the night with some significant pain and a lot of swelling. Looks like I got bit by something (maybe a spider) and have spent the entire day in a chair or in the camper. I can hardly walk due to the pain. What a PAIN!  Hopefully will be better tomorrow.  I figured out I can ride my bike without too much of a problem and spent most of the evening on that.
Cath spent the day "mother-henning" me, but managed to get a few pics of the passing boats and a nice one of the sunset.

Shrimp, scallops, rice, and salad for dinner.
Our friends are coming up tomorrow afternoon, so it should be a fun day.

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 4

Woke up to a rain storm this morning, but was able to walk Kaylee before it really got started. So we sat under the awning and watched it rain.  Cath made banana bread and fruit for breakfast.  Finally stopped raining around 1000.  Cath and I grabbed a shower at the bathhouse (very clean place) and then we were off.
Headed west to another State Park we wanted to check out called Jacques Cartier .  This park is also on the Seaway and very nice.  We will go there next summer.
Hate to admit this, but the wind has been so bad I can't get the boat out, so we bought some local perch fillets.  Battered and fried on the BGE they were great.  Even Cath was grinning, or maybe it was just the wine.
Here's one more shot from our camper looking out.  The place is filling up for the weekend.
Thanks for all who are following.  Will post again tomorrow.

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 3

Started the day with a walk with Kaylee.  We have a great area about a mile from the camper, she can run and swim off lease. And that is what KA likes to do.
Back to the camper and Cath had breakfast from last night's leftovers (hot dogs, taters, onions, and we mixed in some eggs) all done on the grill.
We went to Massena to check out the Eisenhower Locks.  Saw a few boats go through, but no ships.

There is viewing areas from the north and south, south is better.
Stopped at our favorite store (NOT) and picked up a few things, chili included, so we won't be starving as usual.
Back to camp and got the fishing pole out, no joy.

Really need the wind to die so I can get the boat out.  Fish are in 60 ft of water (perch and walleye) but I can't quite cast that far out.
Back to camp and had steak, fries, and fried zucchini for dinner.  Cath made me pedal the bike five miles to bring her ice cream for desert.  It was good, but five miles on the bike wore me out.
Back at camp all is well.  Here's a few more views from the camper.  The seaway is maybe 400 ft from the front of the camper and 100 ft from the back.

  OK to bed...Cath is calling!

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 2

Today was camp maintenance and setup finish.  We got most of it done, but relaxing, walking, and some wine drinking was more important.
Got some good pics of the ships up and down the St Lawrence.
We were going to have Chili Dogs for dinner, but a check of the freezer revealed no chili. We had also planned on Frito Pie later in the trip (which also requires chili), but looks like that won't happen either.  We spend most of our time on these trips starving, but I'm getting used to it.
A few of you asked for campground pics, here's the view from the front of the camper. You can see the Seaway in the distance maybe 400 ft from the camper.
Here's another view looking back toward the camper. You can also see the Seaway about 100 ft.

Tomorrow is explore the area day, hopefully we can find some chili albeit in a can.

Coles Creek SP, NY Day 1

So the first of many trips in the upcoming months.  We left home after visiting Mom around 1300. Easy drive (91 miles) to Coles Creek on the St Lawrence Seaway.  The weather was great today after the heavy rains from yesterday.
We have a nice spot (but not quite on the water, must be 100 ft..LOL) and the sunset tonight was great, light winds and 65 deg.
Here's a pic of the site.
Got all set up and met the neighbors, as usual great folks and fun to talk with.
Had spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, and pickles for dinner.  Afterward Cath and I sat by the fire, Kaylee wanted to go in.  So we had a quiet hour by the fire and Kaylee had a feast of the Spaghetti we had put in the trash can.  Needless to say she is in the dog house.

Tomorrow is camp site improvement day, dog walking day, and eating and drinking day at the Boss camper.  We will explore the local area starting Wednesday.  So here's a pic of the campsite at night.  Will post tomorrow and will sleep good tonight.
