Winter Excursion 6, Day 152 The Life of a Camp Host

Off duty today, but the maintenance guys needed some help with the Park camper. I spent a few hours with them troubleshooting the camper. Ends up it has a bad converter.
We all left around 1100 to visit Magnolia Springs State Park. Picked up some subs on the way and had a nice picnic when we arrived. Cath and I linked up with the couple that were our co-hosts when we arrived here. It was fun to catch up with them. CC, Jacob, and company toured the springs and saw a few alligators and a large snake.
Zoom in on this one, there is tons of small fish.

Back at camp we enjoyed the afternoon. CC made dinner for us all and we sat around the campfire.
It's been a fun day, all is well!

Winter Excursion 6, Day 151 The Life of a Camp Host

Jacob was a big help with the Host duties today. We cleaned up 9 sites, posted all the new comer's slips, and cleaned up the bathhouse.
After lunch I took Kaylee for a short walk. When I got back Jacob mentioned there was a squirrel on the truck! I looked from a distance and sure enough there was a damn squirrel sitting on the truck hood. As I walked over to the truck the squirrel started to look a little funny. On closer inspection this is what I found.
A stuffed squirrel! CC and Jacob thought they were so funny! We ended up naming him George, after George L. Smith State Park where the squirrels caused all the damage to our truck. I'll count this as the find of the day.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 150 The Life of a Camp Host

Just normal host duties today.
Jacob and CC arrived this afternoon! I did a special cleanup on Site #20. It was great to see them all. Cath made a really nice dinner and we all had fun catching up on news.
The find of the day was this piece of PVC.
I haven't figured out what the camper who left it used it for.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 149 The Life of a Camp Host

Last of our three days off. We spent the day doing camp maintenance, hanging out, cleaning, and getting ready for CC, Jacob, and the crowd.
Had some frozen pizza for dinner, a quick movie, then off to bed.
We get to see Jacob tomorrow!

Winter Excursion 6, Day 148 The Life of a Camp Host

We ran into town and did a little shopping in preparation for the coming week. Back at camp we spent the afternoon outside people watching. It has been really windy yesterday and today, so we keep things buttoned down.
One more day off, then CC and Jacob will be here. We are looking forward to seeing them. I've got the E-bike all charged up for Jacob. I'm guessing he will wear it out again like last year.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 147 The Life of a Camp Host

After I did yesterday's blog we got this sunset. It only lasted a few minutes, but it was spectacular.

We are off duty for the next three days and spent today at camp watching all the new arrivals for the weekend. The campground is full and will be that way from now on as it's spring break season and the weather is getting nicer.

Thursday, March 24, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 146 The Life of a Camp Host

Once again, normal host duties, but it was busier as we had 7 leaving and 8 campers arriving. The campground is full.
Find of the day is this "leash on a stake". Not sure if it was for a cat, dog, or a guinea pig. If it was for a dog it must have been a 2 pound "yap hound".
I'll keep the D-ring and the tent stake, but the rope is in the trash.
Weather is our kind, high in the 60s low tonight in the 40s. Good sleeping weather.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 145 The Life of a Camp Host

The rains were not as bad as forecast. We had a few sprinkles in the morning then dry the rest of the day.
Host duties were easy as only a few left and 3 arrived.
This "Schoolie" showed up in the afternoon. This is only the second one we've seen since we've been here. Those are solar panels on the roof.
All in all it was a good day. Our allergies or head colds are getting a little better.

Wednesday, March 23, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 144 The Life of a Camp Host

We ran into town today to do a little shopping Other than that we hung out a camp and nursed our allergies or head colds, not sure which.
Back on duty for the next two days. Campground is not full and the weather is forecast to be rainy for the next few days.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 143 The Life of a Camp Host

Cath and I are both fighting with allergies. We think it's from all the pine pollen, regardless it's a pain. We are both coughing, sneezing, and nose blowing all the time. We hope it all passes soon.
We were off today so we took a road trip to  Skidaway State Park near Savannah. It's a nice state park , very wooded, lots of trails, and 87 campsites. Only thing we did not like was location. It's a very busy (city traffic) area.
Picked up a few t-shirts and then headed home.
We spent the late afternoon outside, enjoying the weather, and talking with the folks in the campground.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 142 The Life of a Camp Host

Today was very busy. We had 15 campers leave and the same amount arrive. Site cleaning was the chore of the morning. One site in particular was really bad. It was littered with popcorn, gold fish crackers, paper shreds and anything you can imagine in the fire pit. It took 30 minutes to get it all cleaned up.
The bathhouse was also a mess, but by 1330 I had it all done.
The find of the day was more fishing tackle.
My tackle box keeps getting fuller and fuller!
In the evening I think almost everyone wanted firewood, so Craig's delivery service was in full swing.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 141 The Life of a Camp Host

Today was a typical day as Camp Host. We had a few departures and arrivals, but as it was Saturday so not a lot. The bathhouse was a mess from the rain so it took awhile to clean up.
The find of the day was more fishing tackle.
Once again it now lives in my tackle box.
Best part of the day was the text I got from Fuccillo Ford back home. Our new truck arrived at the dealer today and will be ready for us when we get home!
It's going to be hard to wait till then!

Winter Excursion 6, Day 140 The Life of a Camp Host

The day started out beautiful! Sunny, temps in the high 60s, with a light breeze.
I got all of my host duties finished by 1300, which was good as the weather turned bad in the afternoon.

The campground is full and we even had some arrivals during the storm. Storm was not as bad as forecast, but we did get a ton of rain.
The find of the day was this doggie poopbag holder. I found it on the campground road and was able to locate the owner's.
We were camper bound the rest of the day and Cath made some yummy Sticky Chicken.
We did a movie after dinner then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 139 The Life of a Camp Host

We slept in a little then spent the morning doing laundry.
In the afternoon we ran into town for a few supplies as we are on duty for the next three days. We picked up a new pot for our resident Spider Plant named "Spike". I think he is happy with his new home.
Spent the rest of the day chilling and doing a few camp chores.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 138 The Life of a Camp Host

We had the day off so we headed to Ft Stewart for a few supplies, mainly from the Class VI! While Cath was in the Commissary Kaylee and I waited in the truck. It rained Cats and Dogs! Cath came out of the store at just the right time, it had stopped pouring.
On the way home we stopped at Claxton, GA to pick up some fruit cake. Seems there are two fruit cake bakeries in Claxton, the famous Claxton one and the not so famous Georgia Fruit Cake Company. The locals have been telling us that the not so famous on is better than the famous one! We will see, I'll post results in a few days.
We picked up some KFC for dinner as Cath gets the craves for it every so often.
Off again tomorrow, then on for the entire weekend.

Wednesday, March 16, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 137 The Life of a Camp Host

Today was just the opposite of yesterday. I had zero campers leaving and only two arriving. I did clean up a little debris and restocked my firewood for sale. All in all I only worked a couple of hours.
Spent the afternoon smoking a corned beef brisket. It came out really good. Cath made all the fixins' to go with it. Jerry and Carolyn came over for dinner. They leave in the morning. It's been a fun two weeks with them around.
The find of the day is another tent stake.
I'll just bend it back in shape and put it with the others I've found! I'm starting to think some campers only use their tent stakes once!

Winter Excursion 6, Day 136 The Life of a Camp Host

Today was super busy. I worked until after 1600. We had a lot of departing campers and after the wind storm there was lots of debris to clean up. With 9 campers leaving and 8 new ones arriving it keep me jumping. Other than that it was normal host duties.
The weather continues to be nice, temps in the 40s at night and 70s during the day with low humidity.
The find of the day was this Command strip hook.
I've no idea what to do with it so I threw it away!

Monday, March 14, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 135 The Life of a Camp Host

We actually slept in a little, probably due to the time change. We had nice brunch and then cleaned up the debris around our camper from the wind storm yesterday.
Spent the afternoon sitting in the sun and enjoying the weather.
Carolyn and Jerry had us over for dinner. The Swedish Meatballs were great!
Back on duty tomorrow for a few days.

Sunday, March 13, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 134 The Life of a Camp Host

Another day off. The winds started last night and were howling this morning. Gusts over 30 mph. This lasted all day. Pine cones and limbs hit the roof on and off all day. It sounds like little bombs going off. Kaylee hates it and spent the entire day in her bed or in the shower. Around 1430 we had a power failure. Seems a tree fell on some lines near Twin City. It only lasted about an hour.
Played some dominos with Jerry and Carolyn. Afterward we had some dinner, a movie, then off to bed. Time change tonight!

Saturday, March 12, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 133 The Life of a Camp Host

We were off today and did almost nothing! I did manage to clean the camper roof of debris from the pine trees. We cleaned up our campsite and then just watched movies all day. The weather was forecast to be bad, but that never happened.
We went to a seafood buffet with Jerry and Carolyn at the Rustic Grill near Swainsboro. It was really good and Cath and I will do it again before we leave.
All is well in the Boss Camp.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 132 The Life of a Camp Host

Another easy day. A few campers left and a few came in. Just did normal host duties. We are off for the next three days.
Find of the day was a clothes pin. I guess I could use it on my nose when I clean the bathhouse!
Spent the evening at Jerry and Carolyn's campfire. A few of the others campers came over and we all had a good time swapping stories.
Weather is going to turn for the worst with rain and freezing temps. Might be time to just hunker down in the camper for a day or two. Time will tell.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 131 The Life of a Camp Host

Well many of the campers did not have any water in their fresh water tanks. So the question of the morning was when will the water come back on and why isn't there any porta-potties in the campground. One camper even asked me if I knew the water was out! Luckily we got the water back around 0830. I unlocked the bathhouse and everyone was happy.
The rest of the day was easy, had two campers leave and one camper arrive. It was super quiet here today.
Rain is in the forecast for the next few days and we hope it will knock some of this pollen down.
The find of the day was another tent stake. I think I have enough of them now to open a small store! It now lives in our pass-thru.

Wednesday, March 9, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 130 The Life of a Camp Host

Our second day off and we just hung out at camp and relaxed. Cath and Carolyn did a little food shopping in Twin City. The weather continues to be nice, but the pine pollen is getting to be a PITA.
Early evening the water pressure in the campground went to zero!. Seems a capacitor at the well pump burned out. We will not have water until tomorrow morning. I helped the other Host notify all the other campers and we locked the bathhouse up. If the campers didn't put some fresh water in their tank they are out of luck, but hopefully learned a lesson.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 129 The Life of a Camp Host

We were off today. Headed a little south to Jack Hill State Park just to check it out. Nice park, 29 campsites, many of which are full hookups. Our Co-host has hosted there and will be there next year also. We are going to stick with the park we are in now.
The find of yesterday was this chunk of deer antler. I'm sure there is a dog somewhere missing their favorite chew antler.
It now lives in Kaylee's bed. I'm sure it will disappear in a week or so.
It's been a fun few days with Jerry and Carolyn with a lot more to go. Campfire tonight at their place.
All is well in the Boss camp!

Winter Excursion 6, Day 128 The Life of a Camp Host

We had 12 weekenders leave and only two new campers arriving. Needless to say site cleanup was the order of the day. Got the bathhouse done and finished up with site cleanup.
We spent the late afternoon relaxing in the shade as temps today were in the 80s today.
We are off for the next two days...not sure what we are going to do.
Find of the day was another tent stake. It now lives with the rest of our stakes. We are getting quite a collection!

Winter Excursion 6, Day 127 The Life of a Camp Host

Saturday. You would think this would be a non-busy day as the weekend campers arrived yesterday. But a bunch of them departed this morning and more weekenders took their place.
All in all it was a fun day. Got to talk to lots of new campers, there is even a few New Yorkers here.
Bummer was the bathhouse, someone decided it would be fun to totally mess it up and guess who gets to clean in up!
Find of the day is this super cute stuffed lizard. I'm sure some little Kiddo left it. It will now reside in our Host Cart and will probably be gifted to another Kiddo soon.
It continues to be fun as a Host. We will do it again next year.

Saturday, March 5, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 126 The Life of a Camp Host

It was busy today as we had 17 new arrivals and 9 departures. Cleaning sites and firepits was the chore of the day. By late afternoon the campground was 100% full. It will be a busy weekend.
In-between host duties we sat around camp with Jerry & Carolyn and enjoyed the great weather.
All is well in the Boss Camp!

Friday, March 4, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 125 The Life of a Camp Host

Spent the day at camp, enjoying the perfect weather, and relaxing.
Cath had a doctor appointment in Twin City. All went very well.
Showed Jerry around the park and we did a quick trip to Swainsboro to pick up my new shorts at TSC.
Sat around with Jerry and Carolyn until dinner catching up on news from home.
Back on duty tomorrow for the weekend.

Thursday, March 3, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 124 The Life of a Camp Host

Today we were off!
We spent the morning shopping in Swainsboro.
In the afternoon we relaxed and waited for Jerry and Carolyn to arrive. They got in early afternoon, got all set up, then we sat around and yakked. Oh yeah...there we a few ABs involved.
Weather here is getting ready to turn hot again just in time for our weekend when we will be back on duty again.

Winter Excursion 6, Day 123 The Life of a Camp Host

Just normal duties today. The campground is only half full, but that will change this weekend. Had only one new camper arrive today.
The find of the day is this diamond necklace. I've got to get it appraised, but I'm sure it's worth thousands!
It now lives in our camper strongbox!

Tuesday, March 1, 2022

Winter Excursion 6, Day 122 The Life of a Camp Host

It was an easy day for our first day back. Had a few campers leave and just four new ones arriving.
Our Co-host did a great job over the weekend on the bathhouse. The shower curtains are spotless!
It was great to have Cath back at the camper. She must have loved it too as she didn't leave the camper all day! She made us a super good dinner with some smoked pork chops, it was a new recipe she tried. It is a keeper!
Kaylee was also happy to get back to her "normal" routine.
The find of the day is this tablecloth clip that campers use on their picnic table.
It now lives in our "accessory" box.
