Winter Excursion 1, Day 112

Today was a get ready to move day. We are off to Warfield Point Park in Greenville, MS.
Coffee and a little camp pack up as it is raining cats and dogs. It's always fun to pack up in the rain.
Left camp around 1000 to do laundry. The day was a little cool so Kaylee decided she had to keep warm in the truck.
This is her "dog cave".
 Another view.
Gassed up the truck and got some ice at one of our favorite machines. The price is much better than the convenience stores.
Left-overs for dinner, some last minute packing up and we are ready to hit the road.
I'll post pics of the new campground on the Mississippi River tomorrow.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 111

Hard to believe, but I got up before the Wacko! Had a sip of coffee and then he was howling for some hot chocolate.
Left camp at 0845 and dropped Jacob off at Sunday School. Kaylee and I went back to Moss Rock. Here's a few pics.
Small waterfall, Kaylee loved playing in it,
The rocks in this park are really neat.
Back at camp Cecilia showed up about 1200. She and Jacob took a nice hike to do some of the scout stuff (compass and map).
3-2-1 ribs for dinner and then a little moose biting.
It's quiet here with Jacob gone. We will miss him, but there is always next year.
Early to bed for me, pack up and get ready to move tomorrow. We are looking forward to Warfield Point Part, MS.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 110

Was awaken by a wild man (better known as Jacob) at 0630. We had a nice  farmer's breakfast prepared on the green egg by Jacob.
Afterward Jacob split all the wood for this evenings campfire.
Jacob and I did a quick run to Wally World for a few items.
After lunch we all went to Pevine falls.
If you look close you can see the falls just to the left of Jacob.
Back at camp Jacob did a little bike riding and misbehaving!
Tacos for dinner, then a nice evening by the campfire.
The wood is almost gone, probably just one more fire.
Tomorrow is pack up day, as we are moving to Warfield Point Park in Mississippi on Tuesday. Supposed to rain for the next few days, We love packing up in the rain!

Winter Excursion 1, Day 109

Woke up this morning, grabbed a quick shower and headed out for a haircut. Cath said I looked shaggy!
On the way back to camp stopped by Lowe's and picked up a new air compressor. Yesterday when I was getting the camper ready to move I had a low tire. With the little compressor I had it took about 45 minutes to fill it. With the new compressor it will take about 45 seconds.
Did some food shopping and then got Jacob from school. Back at camp it was campfire time again.
Here's Jacob with his Statue of Liberty pose.
 Cath and the neighbor visiting.
 And a little Jiffy Pop!
Off to bed, morning comes early when Jacob is around.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 108

Up early to get the truck serviced, but was back to camp by 0930.
Cath and I drove to downtown Birmingham. The inner city is kind of depressed but they are working on it to make it nicer.
We visited the Freedom Park (home of the Birmingham Civil Rights Movement and riots). Here's a few pics:
You can see the historic Baptist Church in the background.
 The Freedom Park.
 MLK.
We also visited the Railroad Park near downtown.
Not sure what this is, but interesting.
The ponds in this park had tons of goldfish and carp.
Look close and you can see all the goldfish around the ducks.
And right across the street is Regions Field, home of the Birmingham Barons.
Back at camp spent the afternoon with a couple of fellow campers. We had a good time and had a few toddies and lots of conversation. We enjoyed the afternoon and evening with Ray and Melinda.
Bacon and eggs for dinner, then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 107

Rain finally quit sometime last night. Woke to a soggy campsite, but was dry and partly sunny today and all is well.
Did a few camp chores and then picked Jacob up from school. Went to Karate, he broke his first block today!
Afterward hit Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner and to celebrate.
Back to the camp around 1930.
Taking the truck in for an oil change in the morning.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 106

Miserable, rainy, foggy, nasty day! We haven't had to many of these on this trip, but it has rained all day and looks like it will continue all night.
Watched a lot a TV (cooking shows) today, and finished up the last of the giant pizza.
Highlight of the day was picking up Jacob from school and going to Karate.

Headed back to the camper before dark. Quick dinner, some TV then off to bed if we don't float away.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 105

Didn't get up until almost 0800. Cereal for breakfast and did the dishes from last night (we were bad by the campfire).
Jacob played a little at the playground and rode his bike all around.
He and I played cribbage as he saw Cath and I playing and wanted to learn. He played a little on the computer and has the basics down.  The lesson of the day was "If you want to play cribbage with Granddad you have to learn to add". He thinks that is funny.
Took Jacob to a birthday party at 1400. Back at camp it's really quiet! Cath is sleeping...LOL.
This is all that's left of the woodpile, maybe two more fires. That should work as we are expecting rain for the next two days, and we leave next Tuesday. Jacob will be here Friday and Saturday night.
Taco pie for dinner and I'm guessing early to bed as three nights with the Wacko has worn us out.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 104

Woke up feeling a little better today. Cath made a nice breakfast.
Jacob and I left to fly the drone at the lake and Cath cleaned up the camper.
Here's a pic of Jacob and me from the drone.
And here's a short video. Notice that Jacob is flying the drone. He did a great job!
Back at camp Jacob was all over the campground, playing with friends, riding his bike, and just having a good time.Cecilia came over around 1430 and all of us took a nice walk. Kaylee ran her legs off as usual and found a stream to run in.
Cecilia stayed for dinner, Cath made a very good spaghetti. Campfire, up late, then off to bed. We all will sleep good tonight!

Winter Excursion 1, Day 103

Perfect Day, however I'm a little under the weather with a cold. Cath started pumping airborne and musinex in me, but felt like junk most of the day. I hope it passes quickly and no one else gets it.
Jacob played with the kids next door in the morning, but they left around noon.
This is Kaylee giving goodbye kisses.
After lunch we took a walk on the "Light Trail". Jacob rode his bike and Kaylee ran her legs off.
Had the mandatory fire..LOL. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad for dinner and then early to bed.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 102

Shopping, laundry, and get Jacob kind of day.
Left the camper after a good clean up and did laundry at our favorite laundromat (NOT!)
That's Cath in the white jacket.

Picked up Jacob from school and gave him the option of out to dinner or dinner at the camper. He opted for dinner at the camper (good boy!). We had steak, Tater tots, and salad.
After dinner smores with the neighbor kids and then "tablet-time" at the campfire.

This generation is absolutely involved with these things.
2130. Almost time for bed. We will all sleep well.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 101

Had a nice morning and the weather is still great.
Left camp around 1030 and headed to Anniston Army Depot to hit the PX and commissary. We found that there is no PX or Commissary, only a very small shopette. Oh well, the drive was nice and we saw a lot of Alabama back country.
Back at camp we met a nice couple from the area. They are new RVers and this is their first camp trip. We talked for a long time and showed them some tips and tricks.
Had a campfire, a few toddies, and a great dinner from the green egg.
We watched our first movie in the camper as we now have unlimited data on our Verizon account.
Jacob will be here for the weekend so tomorrow is shopping, laundry, and camp clean-up.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 100

DAY 100!!!

Had a brief thunder storm last night, but this morning it was beautiful, sunny in the mid 60s. Lazy morning and then off to get Cath's hair done. While she was in the hair dresser Kaylee and I took a stroll in Moss Rock Preserve. I got closer to the waterfalls and got some good pics, here's a few.
This is the lower fall.
Here's Kaylee on the upper fall.
She almost slipped on the wet rocks.
Here's one of the boulders in the Preserve.
Afterward we picked Jacob up from school and headed to karate.
Back at camp by 1730.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 99

Got up this morning, coffee and banana for breakfast.
We drive to Tannelhill State Park (http://www.tannehill.org/) today.
Nice place, great camp ground (as long as it is the off season), otherwise it would be wall to wall campers.
Here's a few pics:
The mill.
 Waterfall up from the mill.
This runs the wheel at the mill.
They stock trout in this stream!
 And here's the mill.
 A view down stream.
 And one last pic.
We will stay here next year for a couple of weeks. They have great rates during the "winter" and there is a lot of History here.
Picked Jacob up from school and headed to Karate.
Back at the camper, steak, portabellas and a nice roll for Valentines dinner. I really love my wife!
Off to bed. Jacob tomorrow!

Winter Excursion 1, Day 98

Recovery Day! LOL.
We had a quiet day. Slept late, got some camp maintenance done, and generally relaxed.
Installed the new SAT TV system and we are pleased. It works just like the home system and the voice activated remote is the bomb. The neighbors were a great help, Alex has all the tools that I left at home. He's been a great help and we love yakking with them.
Verizon today introduced an unlimited data plan! This will allow us with the new SAT system to stream movies and such, we are Jazzed! And it actually saved about $40 on the bill.
Pork and sauerkraut for dinner, it was YUM!
New neighbors with four little kids, should make the next few days interesting.
A little time by the campfire and then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 97

Woke up this morning to more bellying flopping...this has gotta stop!
After a quick cereal breakfast took Jacob to Sunday School. Cath and I dropped him off and drove about a mile away to Moss Rock Preserve. This place was really cool, nice trails, rock formations, a waterfall, and a stream. The trail was about a mile round-trip, Kaylee did about 20 miles, as she was allowed off leash. She met another Viszla (1 yr old) along the way and the two of them had a blast.
The rock formations were spectacular.
Trails fairly level and nice.
Waterfall was big, we didn't get close enough for a good pic.
And here's the Wild Viszla on the trail.
Back at camp the usual, campfire, a few beers, and a crazy Jacob in the area.
We had a good weekend with him and look forward to a couple more. Cath and I are taking the day off tomorrow for some camp maintenance and a little rest.
The Grammy's are on and then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 1, Day 96

The day started with a belly flop from a wacko!
AT 0800 the neighbors were making smores! Jacob tried to weasel one, but we put the kabash on that until after breakfast.
Later in the morning we did some fishing, but had no luck. I'm not sure there is actually fish in this lake.

Here's one of Jacob in one of those rare moments when he's not running around.
Back at camp Jacob rode his bike and played with some of the other kids in the campground. We had a good dinner of jerked pork and of course had a campfire with smores and all. Off to bed around 2200. It was a fun day.
