Winter Excursion 4, Day 92

I had the truck all cleaned of bird poop by 0830!
We spent the rest of the morning around camp. I got everything outside all packed and ready to travel as it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow and we hate packing up wet stuff!
We headed over to Ronnie and Carol's around 1200. Ronnie and I put up some of the outside lights as they just had the house resided. Cath and Carol had another yak fest.
Ronnie burned some steaks for dinner. We headed home around 1930.
A few shows, then off to bed.
One more day until we see the Gunk-Skunk!🦨

Winter Excursion 4, Day 91

Carol picked Cath up this morning and they went into Enterprise to the Nut House. No...not the looney bin, but a really nice nut shop. Cath picked up some yummy salsas, chocolate covered pecans, and some pecan brittle.
I drove over to Ozark to Walmart and TSC for a few supplies we needed.
It rained all day and into the evening, so we spent the day watching some TV and talking at Ronnie and Carol's. Cath made a really nice pork chop dinner.
When we were ready to leave I noticed some bird droppings on the truck, but didn't realize just how bad it was until we got it in the light. There must have been a couple of hundred direct hits. Those birds had good aim! I'll have to wash it first thing tomorrow.
One more day at Ft Rucker then we are off to see Jacob! We can't wait!

Winter Excursion 4, Day 90

Cath Had a hair appointment this morning, so I did a few chores at the camper. The weather is beautiful!
I dropped Cath off a Carol's and then took the truck to a car wash, The inside was especially bad from Kaylee and all the sand.
Cath, Carol, and I ate lunch at the Vietnamese restaurant in Daleville. We had eaten there last year and the food is excellent. The owner remembered us!
Ronnie worked a double today so he got home around 1600.
The dogs are finally sharing a bed! They had been playing musical bed until today.
Nachos for dinner, then we left for camp and a few shows.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 89

We went over to Ronnie and Carol's around lunch.
Ronnie and I ran a few errands in town, the girls stayed at the house and yakked!
In Enterprise many of the businesses and government buildings are decorated with a dressed-up, life size, boll weevil. Here's pics of the one at the Farmers Market.
Cotton in one hand, peanuts in the other!
In Dothan they dress-up life size peanuts.
We spent the afternoon and early evening with Ronnie & Carol. We had a nice Taco dinner and then headed back to the camper.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 88

We met Ronnie and Carol at their house and we headed over to Slocomb, AL for brunch. Zack's has a super buffet on Sunday and if you like southern cooking this is the place to be. Sharon met us there and we all had a good time. We said goodbye rto Sharon and we hope to see her next year. 30 years is too long!
Cath and I went back to the camper after brunch and had a lazy, rainy, afternoon. A few shows, some cards, and pizza for dinner. It's been a fun day!

Winter Excursion 4, Day 87

I drove into post this morning and got a haircut! It was the first one in 90 days. When I walked into the barber shop Ronnie was in one of the chairs! I did a few errand and then headed back to camp.
Cath and I cleaned the place up and played a little cribbage.
Kevin and Kim came over around 1300. We talked about old times and caught up on new ones. It was good to see them, hopefully we can get together again before we leave.
We headed over to Ronnie and Carol's late afternoon. Carol made a nice dinner. Sharon showed up, we have not seen her in almost 30 years! We all had a fun evening just talking. We finally made it back to camp around 2200. On the road in we saw a few deer, but the hit was a good size wild pig (boar). I'll have to be careful driving that road at night.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 86

It rained last night from 0100 to around 0400. Luckily we had packed almost everything up and we didn't get too wet getting ready to go. We were on the road by 1000, but will cross a time zone, so it's actually 0900.
Had a nice 200 mile drive on the Georgia backroads. There is still lots of hurricane and tornado damage in this state.
Here are some pics of the new campsite at Engineer Beach CG, Ft Rucker, AL. We were all set up by 1500.

Cath made a super dinner. We watched a few shows, then hit the pillows. It's been a good day and the weather here is great.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 85

We ran a few errands late morning as we are leaving tomorrow.
After it warmed up a bit we went to the Heritage Farm. It is a working farm, but done like it was 1840. Here's a few pics:

Back at camp we played some cribbage, had dinner, a few shows, then off to bed. Travel day tomorrow to Ft Rucker, AL.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 84

Once again the temps were not as bad as forecasted, low was around 30. We slept in late as we are getting older!
Ran into town for a few errands. Back at camp we had a nice walk on the West River Swamp Trail, about 3 mile round trip. Here's a few pics:
Kaylee had a blast, off leash again!
Here's a view across the lake at the Heritage Farm. We will explore that tomorrow.
Good view of the swamp.
The cypress tress are really interesting!
A little cribbage, a good dinner, some shows, then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 83

It did not get as cold as forecast, but it was in the high 20s last night. It got into the 40s today and with the sun out it was actually nice.
I haven't posted a pic of Spike lately, so here he is with all his friends. The herb garden is sprouting nicely, Spike is happy!
Late morning we took a nice walk on one of the nature trails here in the park. It was about a 2 mile walk and the weather was perfect. Kaylee was off-leash the whole time as the campgrounds are almost empty. We didn't see anyone else on the walk. Here's a pic of a young Longleaf Pine. They are trying to get them back as they are native to this part of the country. There are also stands of Southern Live Oak
We went into Douglas, GA to get propane as the camper heater is going a lot. Back at camp, after her nap, Kaylee worked on a bone.
We had the last of our Sea Trout for dinner, watched a show, and still are missing the Kiddos!💏

Winter Excursion 4, Day 82

We left Edisto this morning around 0900. The line at the dump station was only four long, so we spent a half hour there, but got to yak with some other campers.
We had an easy back roads drive to our new campground. We stopped at Claxton, GA and picked up some fruit cakes. They are always fresher from the bakery.
We arrived at General Coffee State Park, GA around 1430. This is a really nice park and the first time we've been here. There is tons of hiking trails, lots of playgrounds, a farm interpretive center, and fishing along the river and lakes. This would be a super place for kids.
Here's a few pics of our site:
Sites are all pull-thrus with water and elec.

We have four nights here. The weather is forecast for freezing temps (high 20s) every night. Seems like spring to us!
All is well in the Boss camp, except we have no Kiddos!😦😧😭

Winter Excursion 4, Day 81

Everyone slept in a little. Wes didn't jump on us until 0730. BY 0800 we were sipping coffee.
Cath made a super breakfast of scrapple and "omelets in a bag"!
Kids, Kiddos, and Grandma went for a walk and shell hunting on the beach. Granddad did dishes!
Back at camp we all played some UNO (Wesley Rules) and then they had to pack up and head home.
Cath and I spent the afternoon getting the camper ready to move tomorrow. The weather is going to change tonight, very windy with lows near freezing.
It's been a fun two months with the Kids and Kiddos. We will miss them dearly, but we already have some reservations around here for next year.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 80

We spent the morning getting ready for the Kids and Kiddos to come to camp.
Here's a pic of Wes-O-Rino looking like his Dad just before they left to come to Edisto. We love the glasses (with no lenses)!
After all the basketball games they made it to camp. First priority was a walk on the beach. Granddad found his first shark tooth.
Later we hit McConkey's and had a nice fried dinner.
We spent the rest of the evening and night by the fire. We had a real one, no propane fire tonight!

We were all in bed around 2200. It's been a super fun day!

Winter Excursion 4, Day 79

We took a ride to the Carolina Cider Company to pick up some Hush Puppy mix and a few other goodies.
On the way back we stopped at Botany Bay WMA just a few miles from our campground. We did the 6.5 mile driving tour of the old plantation. It was very interesting.
Here's a pic of some Live Oaks along the dirt/sand road we were on.
This old chimney is from a house that used to be slave quarters.
There is also a very nice beach here, but it is not dog friendly.
Back at camp we watched some TV, played cribbage, and as usual had a nice dinner. It was cool today with a high about 52 deg. The wind has been howling all day.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 78

We spent the morning being lazy, but I did get one project finished. The window shade over the settee finally broke. I got the new shade installed, only two more to go.
The day was hot and humid. The thermometer said it was 109.9 outside, but the sensor was in direct sunlight!
We spent the afternoon playing cribbage.
Pizza and wings for dinner, a show, then nighty..night.

Thursday, January 16, 2020

Winter Excursion 4, Day 77

It was a nice lazy day. The weather was perfect, high 60s with low humidity.
We did some camp maintenance in the morning and basically hung out at the camper.
Later in the afternoon we walked up to the fishing spot. I stayed and fished, Cath and Kaylee headed back to camp. As has been the case since we got here no one even got a bite. I'm starting to think the mile plus walk to fish may not be worth it. I could catch the same amount of fish in a sand dune!
Watched a show then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 76

The fog finally cleared out!
We left camp at 0930 enroute to North Charleston to do laundry. We found a really nice laundromat and it only took Cath two hours to get it all done.
I ran some errands and washed the truck.
Back at camp we got all the laundry put away and cleaned up the camper from the sand and dampness due to the last few foggy days.
We spent the early evening by the fire and watched a nice sunset.
Take-out from McConkey's, a movie, then hit the sack.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 75

Woke up this morning to a thick, heavy fog. Everything is soaked. The fog is so heavy that it evens "rains" on and off as the trees are dripping water. Everyone in the campground pretty much stayed in today.
We hung out, watched some TV, played some games, and made a nice dinner. The fog was still there when we went to bed.

Monday, January 13, 2020

Winter Excursion 4, Day 74

The fog set in very heavy last night. We could not see across the street.
I headed up to the fishing spot and almost got lost in the fog. As has been the case all week ..No Fish! These extreme tides are killing the fishing.
Watched the NFL playoffs and then hit the sack.
The fog is REALLY THICK! I'd show a pic, but it would be all white!

Winter Excursion 4, Day 73

Here's the shell yield from yesterday. Not Bad!
The highlight of the find was the shark teeth. Nicole got four and Kennedy got four, Granddad got ZERO! I will look for some on the way back and forth to the fishing spot.
Nicole and the Kiddos left late morning. I went fishing and Cath got a well deserved nap. The fog has set in so that is my excuse for not finding any shark teeth on the way to and fro from the fishing spot.
A nice shower for us both, some seafood for dinner, then off to bed.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 72

Nicole, Kennedy, and Wesley arrived just after lunch. We were super happy to see the Kiddos (and Nicole too)!
First thing was a walk on the beach. There is lots of sea foam as the tides are crazy now.
We got Kennedy a super giant pickle as a surprise. She ate the WHOLE THING! It was cumber size. I had to beg to get the last bite!
After the beach the rain started so it was UNO time! We had a blast.
We all went to McConkey's for dinner. We ordered more than we needed, but ate almost all we ordered.
Back at camp movie and bed time were in order. We all laughed at "His, Hers, & Ours".
Off to bed. We can all listen to the rain on the roof tonight. It's been a fun day.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 71

Our friend Gary stopped by with Jake to say goodbye. He is headed to Santee SP for a few days. We will see him next year.
I headed to the fishing hole as usual. And as usual the fishing was lousy! Everyone is hoping it turns around soon. It's a good thing we are not counting on the catch to feed ourselves.
We ran a few errands later in the afternoon.
We made Shrimp and Grits for dinner. It was fun cooking it and it tasted great!
A few shows then off to bed. It's been another great day!

Winter Excursion 4, Day 70

The weather for the past  week has been fantastic! We have done lots of fishing and lots of walking. Here's a pic of Kaylee and Jake. Jake is our friend, Gary's Vizsla
The fishing has not gotten any better and all the guys are complaining. Hopefully it turns around soon.
I spent the morning getting the oil changed in the truck. Then spent some time fishing. The wind was howling today, so we stayed in the camper this afternoon and evening. We played some cards and as usual Cath made a nice dinner.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 69

I walked up the beach to the fishing spot around 0900. Here's a pic of the beach on the way. The fishing spot is all the way up as far as you can see in the pic.
The fishing today was even worse than yesterday. There was eight guys fishing for a few hours and no one even got a bite!
Back at camp we had a quick bite, then ran over to Flower's Seafood store for a few things.
Later in the afternoon we did a little surf fishing with the same result as the morning fishing. Here's a pic of my "office", and yes the beer was cold!
We had a nice seafood dinner and spent the evening by the fire with some of the neighbors.

Winter Excursion 4, Day 68

Walked up the beach to the fishing spot and found these guys in the area. Dolphins are not good for Sea Trout fishing!
Here's the wake they leave while swimming.
By 1100 there were about six guys fishing. Hardly any fish were in the area. Maybe six were caught, only one was legal.
Here's some beach art at the dune entrance to the campground.
We took a walk later in the afternoon. Here's another view of the campsite.
Will try fishing again tomorrow morning, hopefully with a little more luck.
Dinner, a little TV, then off to bed.
