Coles Creek 2020 Day 9

We got another doozy of a thunderstorm again this morning. It started around 0500 and was over by 0700. We were really glad that we had packed up last night.
Here's the boat pic of the day:
Cath snapped this while we were at the dump station (which we had all to ourselves).
We left the campground around 0900 and were home and unpacked by 1330.
Next blog entry will be 1 Nov 20. We can't wait for Winter Excursion 5!

Coles Creek 2020 Day 8

The day started early with a thunderstorm that started at 0330 and last until about 0730. The campground looked like a lake. Lots of thunder and lightning and a big downpour. After the storm the sun came out and it turned into a nice day.
We spent the morning watching everyone pack up and leave for home. Some folks even packed up during the storm. Even with three lanes at the dump station there must have been 20 campers in line most of the morning. By lunch time the campground was only about 10% full. We were glad we are not leaving until tomorrow.
Spent the afternoon playing cards, packing up, and listening to the silence (all the kids are gone).
Here's the boat pic of the day:
You guessed it, there were no boats today!
We had almost everything packed up before we went to bed as thunderstorms are forecast for tonight.

Coles Creek 2020 Day 7

I did some fishing first thing in the morning before all the crazy boaters and jet skiers came out. Caught a few small perch, but nothing with any size. I saw a very big black bass roll on the surface near my kayak, i wished I could have hooked that one! Here's a few pics:

We spent the rest of the day reading, playing cards, walking, and people watching.
Here's another pic of our view from the camper:
We had a nice meal for dinner and then our last campfire for this trip.
Here's the boat pic of the day. It was actually the only one we saw all day, Cath says maybe they don't work on weekends!

Coles Creek 2020 Day 6

We got some good rains last night, but today turned out beautiful again. We sure can't complain about the weather on this trip.
We made the drive back to Massena to pick up some hard cider. We also got some apple crisp, cider donuts, and an apple tort!
Back at camp we just hung out and watched the other campers come and go. Played some cards and had some of our cider.
Here's today's boat pic:
Only two days left for this trip. We are starting to look forward to our winter trip!

Coles Creek 2020 Day 5

Spent most of the morning hanging around camp doing a few camp chores. Later we took a drive to Messana to pick up some hard cider at Kaneb Orchards. The hours for the orchard where not posted on their website or on google maps, so of course they were closed. They are open Friday - Sunday so we will try again tomorrow.
Rain is in the forecast so we buttoned up camp after dinner.
Weather continues to be great with temps still in the 70s and 40s at night.
Here's today's boat pic:
The campground is not totally full and most folks stick to their campsites, but the kids are still running all over the place. We love to watch them.

Coles Creek 2020 Day 4

Temps went down into the 40s last night so it was great sleeping weather! The high temp today was only in the low 70s.
We drove into Waddington to pick up a can opener as we left ours at home. Stopped a the small grocery store - out of stock, stopped at Ace hardware - out of stock! We ended up at the Dollar Store and got the last one they had. I guess Waddington has had a run on can openers!
Back at camp I got the kayak ready to do some fishing.
Caught a bunch of perch, but they were to small to keep. Oh well, they were fun to catch.
Here's today's boat pic:
Late afternoon we just sat outside played cribbage, and enjoyed the view. Had a campfire after dinner and then early to bed. It's been a fun day.

Coles Creek 2020 Day 3

Sunday morning while we were doing last minute things getting ready to go Cath was watering the flowers on the back porch. She reached under the porch for a can and stirred up a nest of "ground bees". She got stung on here cheek and the back of her leg. At the time we just put some cortisone on the stings and didn't think much more about it. She woke up this morning with a swelled up left side face and the leg sting starting to look infected! We headed to the Urgent Care and she got some oral steroids and some antibiotics. By evening the swelling had gone down. The Doc said that sometimes reactions to bee stings don't show up for a week.

We spent the afternoon playing cribbage and watching the boats going up and down the seaway.
We are hoping that after Kaylee's fish fiasco and Cath's bee problem that we are finished with drama for this trip. Time will tell!😒

Coles Creek 2020 Day 2

We had some pretty good rain storms throughout the night, but it was clear this morning and we've had a beautiful day.
We spent the morning seasoning our new "pie irons". They are cast iron so we had to season them just like a cast iron pan.
Here they are in the egg during the seasoning.
After we got them finished we tried a toasted ham and cheese sandwich. It turned out great. Google pie irons and you can read all about them. We think they will be fun.
Later in the afternoon I went for a little kayak ride. The weather was perfect with almost no wind. I'll probably try some fishing tomorrow.
Late afternoon we took Kaylee to the other end of the park for a little off leash time. She ran around crazy for awhile, did some swimming, and then decided to roll on a dead fish! She smelled awful, and so did our truck and all the towels we used to clean her up. It took two baths and all the peroxide we had with us to get most of the stink off. She said she doesn't care I had a good time!
All in all it was a fun filled exciting day!

Coles Creek 2020 Day 1

We left the house around 1200 and had a lazy drive on the backroads to Coles Creek State Park, NY. I was a little nervous during the first part of the drive as I had repacked the wheel bearings on the camper. It was my first time doing the bearings and I was a little worried about overheating. We stopped twice to check the temps and all was well.
Arrived at camp around 1430 and took our time setting up. Our site is a soft sand pit and leveling the camper was fun! After we got it all set and level I proceeded to connect the power. The pedestal at this site is on the wrong side (it's toward the front of the camper)! I got out my 50 ft extension and attached it to the 25 ft cord and was able to hook it all up, but if the camper had been 12 inches further back we would have had to reposition it! Luck was on our side.
Here's a pic of the site:
And here's a pic of the view:

A quiet evening, a few toddies, a nice dinner, then off to bed.
