Winter Excursion 10, Day 83

We made the drive to Warner-Robins Air Force Base. It's only about 45 minutes away. We hit the commissary, Class VI, and the gas station. We got gas for $2.39! We really didn't need anything from the commissary, but ended up with over $100 in groceries, mainly meat. With our new refrigerator in the camper we can hold lots of frozen stuff.
We spent the afternoon in camp. I even had a campfire for awhile. Temps got into the 50s this afternoon, but are still going into the low 20s at night. We are watching closely the winter storm coming this weekend. Keeping our fingers crossed it is only a rain event for us. Time will tell!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 82

We left camp this morning and drove to Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park.
This park is only 20 miles from our campground. We didn't even know it was there until we had a bunch of volunteers staying at our campground and doing work at Ocmulgee Mounds.
I'm glad we made the short trip. It is a small park, but has lots of trails. The museum is worth seeing. And of course we got our National Park Passport Book stamped!
On the way back to camp we stopped for lunch and then spent the rest of the day in camp. The weather is still cold. It barely got into the 40s!
Today was our last day off. We start work tomorrow, but the campground is almost empty.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 81

I woke up this morning and peeked outside. For a moment I had forgot it was forecast to snow this morning, but only for a moment.

By 1100 it was all gone, but it was pretty while it lasted.
We never left camp all day and barely left the camper to go outside. It was cold and wet.
After I cleaned off the satellite dish we were able to watch the football games. Our co-host came over for dinner and to watch the games.
It's been a fun day off!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 80

Our first of four days off was nice.
We did some food shopping in the morning, picked up some propane, and spent the rest of the day in camp.
We got our new weather station and I got it all set up. I'll get a pic or two and but it in a later post.
We spent the evening watching football. I'm sure Wesley is back in mourning as the Bills lost in a heartbreaker.
We have snow in the forecast for tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow if it happens. The locals are freaking out!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 79

Well the temps did not get to 21....they got to 18! It was a cold wet morning and host duties were not real fun. And of course it had to be windy. We had 19 campers arriving so that means 19 sites to check and clean if necessary. The good news was it warmed up into the 50s in the afternoon. It felt like 75 after this morning's chill.
We got the rest of the hardware we needed to stabilize the new dinette table. It all worked well and the thing is rock solid now.
Today was our last day "ON" and it felt great to just relax this evening.
The find of the day was this old rusty cast iron frying pan.
It was buried in a pile of leaves near one of the camp sites. I think it was beyond saving so it lives in the dumpster now.
We are "OFF" for the next four days!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 78

The big deal today is the forecast for tonight. All the locals are freaking out! Temps are forecast to be in the low 20s! I'll know tomorrow what the temps really were.
Meanwhile we are dripping all the faucets and telling the campers how to survive the night with no "city water". In other words fill your fresh water tank and use that tonight. Pretend you are boondocking.
The find of the day was a nickel.
I plan to keep all the change I find during the next four months while hosting, cash it all in, and enjoy a second retirement!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 77

We woke up to rain this morning, but by 1000 it had stopped. Temps are in the low 40s and with the wind chill the cold goes right through you!
Host duties were very light again, but we are full for the weekend.
The find of the day was this little guy. I haven't named him yet, but he's going to ride with me in the host cart from now on.
If anyone thinks of a name leave it in the comments.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 76

The highlight of the day was the arrival of our dinette table (finally)! It looks great and we are super happy with it. It was nice to eat dinner on a real table.

The campground is not full and host duties today were light. Which gave me time to install the new table.
It was cold this morning, but warmed up into the 60s in the afternoon. We do have rain and very cold temps in the forecast for the next few days.
The find of the day was this old, gray wash cloth. Whoever used it last obviously didn't like it as I found it in the campground road.
It now lives in the dumpster.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 75

Our last day off and we are expecting our table for the dinette to be delivered. They forgot to pack it with the dinette. However, good ole' FedEx did not deliver it. Hopefully we get it tomorrow!
We left camp this morning and went to CVS to get all our scripts squared away while we are in this area. This CVS was very helpful. They have a great staff.
We did some food shopping before we are "ON" for the next four days.
Early afternoon we went to the Whistle Stop for our fry fix. Fried Green Tomatoes, Rooster Strips, and Country Fried Steak was our early dinner.
Forgot to mention the yummy lemonade and sweet tea! Lots of health food..LOL!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 74

We spent the entire day in camp watching football. The Bills won, so Wesley is not in mourning!
Ed (our co-host) came over for dinner. We did up two batches of wings and Cath made a great macaroni salad. It was great football food.
The weather has turned cold. Temps will be in the 20s tonight. All the campground faucets are "dripping" and will be for a least the next week or so.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 73

After another nice breakfast thanks to the Flattop, we headed out for a little shopping.
First stop was Bass Pro Shoop just down the road from us. Cath scored 5 new shirts and 2 new sweaters! I scored some shogun shells!
Second stop was our favorite butcher shop for some "fat infused" pork chops. They are to die for and we will have one tonight for dinner.
One of the maintenance guys and I took what was left of the Dinesk to the dump. Cath and I were happy to see that thing go. Monday we should receive our table top that they forgot to ship with he new dinette and that install will be complete. Stayed tuned for pics!
We had a windy afternoon and a brief rain shower as a front passed through. Temps will be back to normal now (50s and high 20s). The past few days in the 70s was really unseasonable, but the locals loved it.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 72

It was super nice to have a day off after five days "ON".
After breakfast we drove over to Gray, GA to do a little food shopping and get some propane at the Tractor Supply Company.
We spent the rest of the day in camp relaxing and enjoying the 70 degree weather.
Later in the afternoon we had a nice campfire, our first since being here. Here's a pic.
The sunset was nice, but 30 minutes later we were given an even better one.
That's the best since we arrived. There will be others.
We are looking forward to another good night's sleep.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 71

Another dog toy day and a dog day to go with it. Here's the Find of the Day.
I call this one "The Mule" because it sure doesn't look like a horse! One of the Kiosk Gals wanted it for her puppy at home. I told her it needs a good washing first.
It was a dog day because of the weather. You would think it's the "dog days of summer" around here. It's been sunny and warm for the past few days. Is it really January?
Today was our last day "ON" for four days. We are looking forward to it!
All is well in the Boss Hosting Camp!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 70

Another dog day toy find. Here's the latest.
A green ball today and we are not finished yet. More dog toys to come. I think there are lots of forgetful dogs in Georgia!
It has not been busy this week with campers, but it was a good time to catch up on some site maintenance.
One more "ON" day then we are off for awhile!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 69

Aside from our normal duties we did LAUNDRY today! Absolutely our favorite camping pastime besides people watching. Actually it was nice to use the campground laundry facility. Cath got the machines cleaned to her standard and we get all of our coins back. We were finished in a few hours.
Today was find the dog toys for me, so here's the Find of the Day.
Stay tuned, more dog toys to come.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 68

Today was a repeat of yesterday. I did spend some time cleaning and getting the host cart the way I like it. We got the store rooms and cleaning supplies organized the way we like them.
The Find of the Day was this "thing"!
I have no idea what it is, but I sure hope it's not important!
We had another nice sunset as usual.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 67

Our first day on was total Deja' Vu. I was up at 0700, had some coffee and hopped on the Host Cart at 0800. Did the rounds, checked the bathhouses, and the boat ramp. Then went to the Kiosk and picked up our paper work for the day. Checked and cleaned the sites for the incoming campers. After that it was a waiting game to clean the sites for departing campers. By then it was time to do the bathhouses. After that it was lunch time. We spent the afternoon greeting the new campers arriving and answering questions. Around 1700 checked the bathhouses and then relaxed. I swear we just did all this a few weeks ago. It was like we never left. It was good to be busy again.
The Find of the Day was this chunk of rebar. It was left on a site in the grass. I'm glad the mower didn't hit it!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 66

We are "ON" tomorrow, so today is our last day to get all set up and ready to work.
We left camp and did a big grocery shopping at our favorite store, Publix! I won't even mention what the bill was...LOL!
We spent the afternoon just relaxing after we got all the food put away.
there were a few good football games on in the evening, but we hit the bed before they were over. We are looking forward to our first day "ON".
Stayed tuned for the new "Finds of the Day".

Winter Excursion 10, Day 65

The breakfast sandwiches were a big hit with the staff as usual. They hadn't had any since last year and asked when the next batch is!
I got the gazebo set up this morning. It is just in time for the rain tonight. That way I can put the chairs in it rather than folding them up and putting them in the pass-thru.
Our new dinette arrived today. Our co-host and I got it all set up. Only problem was they did not ship the table! They forgot to pack it! They did pack the table hardware. I called and they will send it ASAP. Here's a pic with the little outside table we are using until the real one arrives.
We like this way better than that Dinesk. And we get more storage underneath. The left side has a really big drawer.

Winter Excursion 10, Day 64

We continued with the set up today. Got the Flattop all set up and ready to go. Sounds like breakfast sandwiches tomorrow.
The weather turned a little warmer and we almost got to 60 today. We spent the afternoon outside people watching.
Sunset this evening was better than yesterday. Here you go.
We love our view from the camper!

Winter Excursion 10, Day 63

Woke up early this morning. We were anxious to greet the other employees that were not here yesterday. Again they were all happy to see us.
I did more camp setup. We are getting everything out as we will be here for 4 months. Got the grill set up, the picnic table moved to where we want it, cleaned up the site, and got the bird feeder set up and ready to go. We did a quick trip to Tractor Supply in Gray, GA to get propane and bird seed. Temps tonight are going to be in the 20s!
We had our co-host over for dinner, shrimp and Alaskan crab legs with all the trimmings. We had a good time catching up with Ed and all his happenings.
Here's a pic of the site.

Here's a pic of the sunset this evening. It's not bad, but there will be more that are better.
We will be doing more setup tomorrow.
