Family Reunion Trip, Day 78

Last night we had one of the heaviest rain storms I've ever seen. It started around 0300 and lasted until 0700. The radr in our area showed only dark red, no green or yellow. The lightning was so frequent that it basically looked like daylight outside! Luckily it cleared up and we were on the road by 0800.
First stop was Springfield, IL at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site Visitor Center. Here's a pic of his house. This Historic Site is right in the middle of the city. Yes, we got another stamp!
A wagon that was used for his presidential campaign.
We snapped this pic from the truck. It's hard to see, but there is a giant Abe Lincoln driving the wagon.
Next stop was Atlanta, IL. Here's the water tower.
The small town has lots of murals in really good shape.
And this giant at the local hotdog stand.

A small park on the corner.
This is the library and the town clock tower. The clock gets wound by hand every eight days.
 I loved this mechanic's sign.
One last pic of Atlanta.
From there we left RT 66 for the last time and headed to our campground.
Here's the site. It's right on the Illinois River across from Marseilles, IL. We had no way to know that we booked the nicest site in the campground, as we've never been here before. Some of the other campers are jealous.
This next pic is a little gross. We got here and were all set up. The neighbor came over to say Hi and gave us some fresh veggies from their garden. To thank them I dug out one of our little bottles of maple syrup we use for gifts. As I walked over to their site their Doberman attacked and bit me! This is my upper thigh. It's not real bad and I think it will heal up in a few days. Camping can get exciting!
We have had a great time traveling RT 66. It is an experience we will not forget.

So, who got bit? That looks like it’s Cathy’s leg but if it’s yours Craig, you have smooth hairless legs!! Hopefully the dog has had its shots!!
