I’m
writing this on our first day at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA. It might be
a day or so before I can post it as we have no internet or cell service here.
Today
may have been our (my) worst day camping since we started 8 years ago and over
1500 camp days.
I
mentioned yesterday that my ankle was “killing” me and it continued so today.
To be honest it was a chore to take a few steps.
We had pretty much packed up inside and out before we went to bed last night. All was well.
First story starts back at home. When we left the driveway last week the TPMS went off and indicated tire pressure was 39 psi on the passenger side rear trailer tire (norm is 65 psi). Past years we have had some issues wth that sensor. A few miles down the road TPMS indicated pressure was 42psi. So, I figured the tire was OK as it was rising with the temp, but the sensor was acting up again. For the next 180 miles it stayed at 42 psi. After we got to Schodack SP I checked it and added air to 62 psi to match the rest of the tires, that should have rung a bell in my head, but my foot was still killing me. I thought all was well. Checked it the next day and then never gave it another thought. So, this morning the TPMS showed 29 PSI! as we were leaving.
Drove a few hundred yards to the dump station and then I could see (on asphalt) that the tire was low.
As I got all ready to dump the next big thing occurred. I hooked it all up, the dump site lid was broken and there was no stone in sight. I figured as a seasoned “Dump Master” I could just open the valve slowly and all would be OK. I was wrong! I had crap all over the place! The best part was the water faucet at the dump site was broken and turned off! There was a potable water faucet about 150 feet away. Luckily, I had a 200 ft hose with us and was able to clean everything up. Good thing we had left super early due to the time change and no one noticed what we were up to!
Anyway, we dumped and then headed to the day use (boat ramp) area and changed the tire to the spare. After all we’d been through this morning, I could not believe that the tire change went smoothly, but it did. Cath was a big help as I just limped (gimped) around. Here's a pic. Notice the screw.
