Winter Excursion 10, Day 218

This morning I was sitting outside enjoying the weather and watching a neighbor two sites down pack up. After a while they got into the truck and started to leave. I heard a very loud noise (bang) and looked their way and saw the camper nose down and half out of the site. I walked over and saw that they had forgotten to put the large pin into the receiver to hold the hitch. When they started moving forward the hitch came out of the receiver, but the safety chains still held the camper to the truck! The jack head crashed into the tailgate and was destroyed. They were both very upset, wanted to cancel their plans for today, and call a mobile repairman. I told them that was not necessary and then helped them use the trailer jack manually (they didn’t know this was possible). In about 20 minutes I had them all hooked up again and they hit the road. They will need a new jack and will have to get the tailgate repaired or replaced.
The rest of the day was uneventful! We played some cards and packed up what little we had gotten out at this campground. We will be leaving here tomorrow for our last campground of this year’s trip and to meet some camping friends for a week.
