On our way we saw this monster and just had to take a pic. No idea, but it's all aluminum?
The campground at DeSoto is nice and there was hardly anyone there. We drove up to the Desoto falls and was rewarded with these pics.
The dam.
There is actually two falls not counting the dam.
Here's Cath.
And here's a quick vid.
Next we headed to Little River Canyon National Preserve. This is just south of DeSoto SP and has only been a National Preserve since the late 1980s.
Here's a pic of one of the many waterfalls.
A pic of the canyon. There is a windy road that follows the canyon with many lookout turnoffs. It reminded us of the Blue Mountain Parkway in North Carolina and Virginia. This rock in the middle of the road was left by the workers that built the road. The foreman said to blast it out, but the workers liked it and left it in place.
A pic of our favorite truck at one of the lookouts.
A view across the canyon at one of the lookouts.
The last waterfall on the drive.
And here's the waterfall.
We got back to camp at 1530. It's going below freezing tonight, so we are staying in. Looks like dinner, some cribbage, and a movie. Northern Alabama is a really nice area. We like it much better than the southern part of the state.
