Family Reunion Trip, Day 60

It's been two months on the road this summer so far!😛😜😃
Today was a travel day. We left Em's at 0730, dumped the camper and headed for RT 66. Some of the driving today was on I40 as alot of RT 66 is gone (paved over by I40).
I'll try to give a good idea of what we did today, but the pics really tell the story!
First stop was Meteor Crater.

Here's the crater in a panorama pic. This hole is really impressive. If the Washington Monument was placed in it the top would be just level with the surrounding desert.
Click on the pic to open it up.
Next was Winslow, AZ. TAKE IT EASY!!!!
"Standin' on the corner in Winslow Arizona".
And the bar that helps to beat the heat...LOL
This giant rabbit is a must on RT 66!

The rabbit is cool, the place is a dump!
Then we went through the Petrified Forest National Park and the Painted Desert National Park. The following pics really don't tell the story. Went went through the parks south to north. The views, vistas, mountains, and desert is breath-taking. Weather was nice, temps only in the 90s, we were lucky.
Looks like they had chain saws, but it just cracked due to weather.

This is what the Transfer Stations used to look like (think Pony express).

Cath is sitting on a petrifried log!
Me too.
Click on this pic to see a panorama of the Painted Desert
We thought this was a cool pic. We probably took 50+ pics. The area is amazing!
Here's a few pics from the truck, driving on RT 66 toward Gallup, NM.

Here's the new campsite at Bluewater Lake State Park, just west of Grant, NM. CTC count was 147 today.

All is well in the Boss Camp. We will do some exploring tomorrow. Stay tuned for more!

Family Reunion Trip, Day 59

Em took Cath and I to the Farmer's Market in Flagstaff this morning. We all had a good breakfast burrito. Picked up a few things then headed to Walnut Canyon National Monument.
Interesting place. Eons ago people lived here in the canyon walls. At some point they disappeared, it is still a mystery why, but some think they headed south and joined the Hopi Indians. If you look close at the pics you can see some of their dwellings. And yes we got another stamp!

Headed back to Em's house and Cath and I left to do laundry. Em made a great meal of Enchiladas and we had some tamales from the Farmer's Market to go with them.
Moving day tomorrow. We have had a fun time with Em and really appreciated her hospitality!

Family Reunion Trip, Day 58

Em and Cath left at 1000 for a day trip to Sedona and Jerome. I stayed home with Kaylee and relaxed, watched the storms and some TV.
This is driving through Oak Creek Canyon.
Slide Rock State Park, where everyone swims, but there is only 6 inches of water!
Bell rock in Sedona, AZ.
Looking into the valley from Jerome.
Ditto. We think this is the Mexican Methodist church that burned.
Thunderstorms in the distance where Craig was getting dumped on!
This is one of the oldest, active saloons in AZ.

This is the old theater in Jerome. We think this is where Grandfather and Grandmother met.
A shot of Jerome.
Hacienda outside of Jerome.
Miners museum in Jerome.
Headed back home through Sedona, AZ.
Although all of Sedona is considered to be a vortex, there are specific sites where the energy crackles most intensely. The four best known Sedona vortexes are found at Airport Mesa, Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock and Boynton Canyon—each radiating its own particular energy. Em says this was a second rate one at the "never ending store". Google "Sedona Vortex.
More of the store.
Back home, Elk burgers for dinner compliments of Chris Girard...Thanks!😛

Family Reunion Trip, Day 57

We had a fairly lazy morning. Em left for work and Rob slept in a little. Cath and I just relaxed.
I took the truck in for service. All is well, but it has an oil leak at the rear main. I'll have to get that fixed when we get home. The Ford dealer was in downtown historic Flagstaff. They are the fifth oldest Ford dealer in the country!
Cooked ribs on the Egg and talked to Rob all afternoon. We had some pretty good thunderstorms and Kaylee was not happy.
Em got home, we had dinner, and yakked for awhile. All in all it was a nice lazy day.

Family Reunion Trip, Day 56

Tried to beat the heat this morning, but it was in the 90s by 0630. We got packed up and on the road by 0730. First stop was Hackberry, AZ.
Here's some pics of the gas station.

Back on the road we headed east on RT 66.
Next stop was at Grand Canyon Caverns.
Here's their mini-golf course.

They also have a campground,  but there were only two campers there.
This guy was on the road to the campground.
We ate lunch at the Roadkill Cafe. Food and service was very good.

Next we headed to Ashfork, the flagstone capital of the world!
There are heaps of flagstone everywhere in the town.

These pics are from Williams, AZ. It is a tourist joint.

We made it to Emily's around 1530. Set up the camper and just enjoyed the weather. It's only in the 80s here in Flagstaff, AZ. CTC count today was 163!

Em got home around 1730 and of course we had a yak fest. Rob arrived from work around 1930 and we all went to the local tavern for dinner and a few toddies. All in all it was a great day.
